Qualifications & Experience:


MANDATORY
? Five years or more of employment experience in welding or related occupation
? Proficient and knowledgeable of basic primary processes: OFW/OFC, SMAW, GMAW, GTAW,
FCAW, CAC-A, PAC
? Ability to work well with others
? Strong communication skills
? Ability to use technology for professional productivity.


DESIRABLE
? Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree or higher in from a regionally accredited institution of higher
learning, or ability to complete an associate’s or bachelor’s degree within six months
? Teaching experience in the career and technical education field
? An industry recognized credential in the program field of study
? Ten years of employment experience in welding or related occupation
? Certified Welding Inspector


INITIAL TEACHING CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
One of the following:
? Verification of a bachelor’s degree or higher in an area appropriate for the subject area being
taught, and four thousand (4000) hours of DESE-approved, related occupational experience
obtained within the most recent ten (10) years; or
? Verification of an associate’s degree in an area appropriate for the subject area being taught,
and five thousand (5000) hours of DESE-approved, related occupational experience within the
most recent ten (10) years; or
? Verification of six thousand (6000) hours of DESE-approved, related occupational experience
obtained within the most recent ten (10) years.

 

Position Summary
The instructor is responsible for developing and implementing the daily lesson plans and activities for
the welding instruction for adult and/or secondary students. The instructor is also responsible for
creating a classroom environment that implements best practices, supports industry standards, and
engages students in career and technical education. Classes are currently scheduled to run Monday
through Thursday from 3:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Fridays are occasionally required for professional

development and schedule may change subject to student enrollment. It is anticipated that this position
will be a 12-month teaching position.


Essential Job Duties
? Maintain and assume responsibility for the assigned classroom environment.
? Develop and implement daily lesson plans that follow approved curriculum, support industry
standards, and are aligned with appropriate assessments.
? Actively engage and interact with students using intentional best practice teaching strategies.
? Plan and prepare the learning environment with needed materials and supplies.
? Develop a course syllabus for each class taught and provide a copy to students and
administration at the beginning of the semester.
? Maintain appropriate record keeping for assigned classes to include student attendance, record
of grades earned, and other related classroom information.
? Demonstrates professional conduct, positive attitude, and supportive culture.
? Effectively collaborate with colleagues and industry partners to build positive relationships
within the SOMO Tech. environment and the community.
? Assist with curriculum development and modification of programs to align curriculum with
industry-based demands, accreditation and certification requirements, and program operation,
as necessary.
? Maintain confidentiality of students, parents/guardians, and fellow staff members, as well as
records and all information.
? Assist in addressing student concerns regarding advisement, placement, and course difficulties.
? Works with program advisory committees; serve as partners with local industry.
? Facilitate student recruitment; assist in the promotion of programs.
? Complete professional development training hours and maintain appropriate professional
certification, as necessary.
? Participate in professional organizations, as appropriate.
? Assist with textbook adoption process when needed.
? Sponsors student clubs and/or organizations, as appropriate.
? Exhibit exemplary attendance and punctuality.

? Comply with SOMO Tech and West Plains RVII School District policies and procedures.
? Serve on committees as requested.
? Attend community/professional events as requested.
? Perform assigned responsibilities, duties, and tasks according to established practices,
procedures, techniques, and standards in a safe manner and with minimal supervision.

talk or hear. The employee must be able to move around and about their area, and operate a computer
